Scottsdale, Arizona
Labor Day weekend is the unofficial end of summer and we couldn't let it pass without taking on a new adventure. We were between New York and Arizona. Arizona won. Now if only I truly recalled where the state was on the map, I probably would have opted for NY because we flew across the country for just a few days but it was worth the trek.
How we got there!
My annual companion certificate was due for use so we flew Delta from CLT>ATL>PHX. One of the highlights of this travel session was the lounges we got to explore. It's been atleast 2 years since the Delta Sky Club opened in Charlotte and this was our very first visit. I must say it was a lovely lounge. Tons of space, clean and the great options on the food bar. It was super early so we opted to skip morning drinks and just had our morning coffee.
Once we were in Atlanta, we hopped the train to our next lounge for the layover and then we were off to Phoenix. A 3-hour plus flight and we landed late afternoon then headed to the resort via Uber. Cost from the airport around this time of day for an XL was ~$35.00.
Nestled at the base of CamelBack Mountain, the resort was huge. It's a mix of the hotel property with Golf Villas, private homes and apartment style living scattered across the perfectly-kept grounds. Let's just say it was HOT so when people warn of the heat, they tell not one lie. Sheesh!! The only other place I have experienced this level of heat was in Cabo. Needless to say - I was ready for the heat poolside if for nothing else.

The resort came with tons of amenties and several onsite dining options. We only ventured off property once for dinner and the other times, we ate at the property. Mowry and Cotton was for breakfast. The first day we ordered a la carte however the next day, they had a breakfast buffet which has lots of options and there was also an omlette station. We also ordered drinks poolside and food from The Phonencian Tavern.
There several onsite dining options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We dined mostly poolside and at Mowry & Cotton. Both had great selections and the food was great. We ventured off property and dined at a wonderful steakhouse which was chef's kiss!
Full of Amenties - the Fun Stuff!
One of the best things about this property is the amenties! It's full of them! We put to use the Athletic Club, bicycles (free for 2 hours), lunch at the golf club and access to tour the entire property grounds! It's absolutely stunning!
There is a Spa onsite and I opted to skip this time but when I return, I will definitely take advantage of the services. The property is also kid friendly. So if you want a property that can be for a family trip, this one is ideal. Attached to the athlethic center is a game room accessible with your room key. It was a great size and had a mix of games, televisions, and kid-friendly options to choose from.
What we did the most? - Lived Poolside!
I've finally somehow convinced Thomas that living poolside for hours at a time is really where it's at! :-) Our last vacations he has actually made that a request as long as there is some shade near by. The set up is nice and you have several options to choose from which was wonderful. There are 3 pools here - one that is kid friendly, an adults only (18+) and one that is called the Mother of Pearl which is the one located closest to the Spa. They all are connected but seperated by tiers and connected by stairs. Cabanas were for rent but I after I toured, I also opted not to purchase due to the number of lounge chairs/umbrellas poolside that did not have to reserved. We sat in the same section for each visit and it was perfect. Servers will visit the pool areas to take food and drink orders so you don't have to lift a finger. I caught up on some reading and the rest is history left poolside!
While there on your visit, keep in mind that this property also offers several events that you can reserve for participation such as a Wine Tasting, Mixology Experience, Live Band, Luau with live entertainment and Movie Night. Some came with a cost and some were free. A nice mix of options - again for couples, families or friends. Since our balcony faced the pool, we were able to watch the Luau and festivities on our last night without leaving our room.
Left something behind?
There is also resort shops with clothing and gifts as well as a marketplace with pastries/drinks and an onsite 'corner' store for things you may have left at home. You really won't have to leave the property for anything at all! The service was superb and I honestly can't wait to visit this location again. It was the perfect mix of tropical x desert!
Don't forget to pack your coin and you won't go hungry or thirsty!
